My name is Miss Samelian, and I'm very excited and honored to be teaching your child. This is my seventh year teaching at Valentine Hills. I've enjoyed working with 4th and 5th grade students. Before coming to our school I was a teacher at Island Lake and Turtle Lake Elementary, as well as a preschool teacher at Children's Country Day School. I am a teacher leader at Valentine Hills, having worked on our BILT (Building Instructional Leadership Team) and PBIS team (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), as well as numerous district level committees.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a degree in Elementary Education along with a minor in English. I am currently finishing my Masters in Education Degree at Hamline University. I am a Minnesota native. When I'm not teaching I enjoy bike riding, walks around beautiful lakes, riding my horse, cross-country skiing, paddle boarding, reading great books, and enjoying time with my family and friends.
I really love teaching children and working with families. I believe in ALL my students! They have amazing talents, insightful ideas, and creative minds. In our classroom we strive to make learning fun and challenging. Questions, wonder, and participation are highly valued. We have goals posted in our room so each student understands what they are aiming for that day. We use movement throughout the day and drink water to help our brains learn and focus. Our room is a safe place for students to feel accepted, cared for, successful, and comfortable taking risks.
I strive to have open communication, working closely with you as a team to help your child grow and love learning. If you need to reach me please email at [email protected] (the easiest way to get a hold of me), call, or send a note. This is going to be a great 5th grade year!
